MAN, the amount of research, writing, sketching, and so on before I even got to the point where I could think about where to start this story still feels a bit overwhelming. But that I DID start it is the thing, and that I continued (and continue to continue) is quite a huge deal in my life, littered as it is with a gazillion un-realized bursts of inspiration. SPLASH! The octopus decoration on the berth is an homage to the gorgeous one to be seen on the schooner Adventuress. Mayaguana Island, unlike some other islands I mention later, is REAL.

Molly Demeter Sokolow Hayden (or Modemeter, for obvious reasons of length) grew up surrounded by her father’s comic book collection, sometimes literally. She fell in love with Will Eisner’s Spirit at an inappropriately young age and wishes she could draw like Jaime Hernandez. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, her daughter, and her cat, and sneaks down to her drawing table whenever she can.
